[TenTec] Headphone Audio Levels

I've just been using 2.059d since this weekend, and there's no doubt that the main audio output level is down substantially. I've also observed that when using NR, the RF gain is reduced and has to be increased to obtain the original level. OTOH, the NR now seems to finally be working as originally advertised in that a narrow window is built around the desired signal and competing noise is really attenuated. It worked quite well on 40M this morning and 80M last night.

I am still evaluating the new firmware.

"Haven't tried the AUX out yet, but the headphone output seems to be down in
both 2.037 and 2.059."

I yanked the bass out of my audio by setting the EQplus bass control to 0. With no processing and 1500 watts PEP out, the average peaks shown on the 302C-3 were around 30 Watts. Progressively increasing the SP from 1 to 9 increased the average peaks up to 200 Watts. By comparison, my trusty old Alpha Vomax pushed the average peaks to about 175-200.

> As with any aggressive speech processor, bass will cause distortion, so pull out the bass and boost the treble with the internal EQ or an external one, and/or use a mic like the Heil HC 4 or 5. Although I haven't tested it, an HC mic element with the EQ set to 0 or a few dB to the minus should work very well in contest or DX pileup. Setting the low frequency roll-off to 300 Hz will work also.

I have returned to V2.059d and it certainly looks to me like the "AUX Audio Output" levels are now controlled by the front panel Main and Sub AF knobs (No longer being fixed in level) - as well as being low in level. I would appreciate it if someone else with and Orion could check this. I did not see a note on this in the change history but I have a feeling that there may have been some big changes in the audio chain of the V2 Orion.
