[TenTec] OMNI Vi+ Band Scan

What is the "band scan" feature?  I don't recall that on my Omni VI+ . . .

I just bought a used OMNI VI+ and it seems to work great in every respect
except Band Scan. When I do a Band Scan, the frequency of the receiver
becomes unstable and CW signals sound very chirpy. There are no problems
when doing the same scan at the same or faster rates manually using the main
tuning control. Has anyone ever had such a problem? What is causing it?
