Carl were you using the Omni Vll through a computer set up or just a basic radio via a power supply?. Just wondering , Mac

Carl, I did not participate in Field Day on Saturday but my YL and I went to Fort McHenry national Park near Baltimore and "captured" a picnic table. In fact we got there before the Park opened at 8AM. I clamped my MP1 vertical to the picnic table and threw the counterpoise under the picnic table. Then hooked up my Elecraft KX1 with a Li-POL battery and we off. I had figured that in the morning before Field Day I would make some contacts with 3 watts. And sure enough I first worked a Tenn. station working CW of course.

It would have been super nice to have a Ten Tec Argo V but maybe that will come in a few months.

1000 QSO's. They both performed flawlessly and handled the excessive QRM
beautifully. 80 percent of our QSO's were made on CW. We had 2 dipoles
each for 80, 40 and 20 meters. We used the 40 meter dipoles also on 15
meters. We were at a site with a 120 foot fire tower. So we used the fire
tower to support most of the dipoles. We had 2 dipoles for each band at
right angles to each other. We did this to avoid the null off the end of
the dipoles. I would call CQ on an east-west dipole and stay with that
antenna until I did not get an answer to a CQ then switch to the other.
This technique caused us to be on the best antenna favoring the propagation
direction at all times.

My Orion had firmware 2.062a in at and performed perfectly.

original version although I don't recall which one was in it before. Last
year, there were reports of crashing at least once per hour or more. This
time, running all SSB and over 1,000 QSO's, we had only two lock-ups during
the course of the event. I suspect that the newest v. 2.x is better and
advised the rig's owner to do the hardware mod and upgrade.
