Interesting read on all this.  Instead of reinventing the wheel, just  
pick up the phone and call MJF and purchase a their 12 volt booster
System,  MJF-4416  sounds like what many are looking for, efficiency  
is in the order of 89 to 95 percent, go to their web site and look at  
the specs, all for 139 frog skins. Also includes Anderson power  
connectors as well as 5- way binding posts.
