Hi John,
The Jupiter is an excellent rig and I think beats anything
else in the $1200-$1500 price class. I have had one for about
four years now and it's my favorite of all time. I have been at
this for 48 years and have owned or used many rigs. I always come
back to the Jupiter though at present I have a Kenwood Ts-820s,
TS-830s, Scout, Argonaut V. The 820s hasn't seen power in four
years, the 830 in two years, Scout in a year but I do use the
Argo V. The Jupiter has the best receive audio though the Argo V
is very close the others are not even close. I sold my Corsair II
and it too wasn't close to the Jupiter in audio quality.
Selectivity is excellent and better than anything except the Argo
V. I have never had a problem that couldn't be cured with a
reset. It works great on Field Day and others comment how good it
sounds and works. However, with strong signals within the 20 Khz
roofing filter, greater than a 40db over signal off frequency, it
will overload the 1st mixer and give pop's in the audio. Turning
on the ATT cures it completely and the only band I have
experienced it is on 75M. On 10 meters on extremely weak signals,
near the noise floor, it could use a little more IF or AF gain.
The signal will be readable but veeeery weak and you would like a
little more AF gain. Once again only near the noise floor. I
don't think you will regret buying one and you can find a good
used one for about $850 if you look. Also works great with N4PY
computer control.
