Probably a bit of "RFI" to yourself. I'm betting that the headphone 
cable
is picking up your transmitted RF and your signal is being rectified in 
the
phones.

Some things I would try include:

1. A different set of headphones
2. A (appropriate mix for the frequency) torroid on the headphone cable 
(close to the earpiece)
3. Wrapping the headphone cable around a ferrite rod
4. Adding a counterpoise (1/ 4 wave wire) to the station ground system 
(if
the problem is only on one band.)
