Wow...you guys are really helpful!  Thanks a bunch.  I had noticed that
after the rig was on for about an hour, with the antenna disconnected, you
can hear a small oscillation which varied depending on which filter you have
selected.  Backing off of the RF gain less than one division stopped it.
When powered off for an hour, and then back on, all is well again.  I will
try some of these ideas, but thanks to you, I'll stay away from direct
