There is an air gap between the hub and the outside of the knob and the
hub splits. I filled the air gap with bits of aluminum and its worked
fine for years. I suppose one might fill that air gap with a good
plastic compatible epoxy, either way one adds the outer ring of plastic
to brace the split hub.
