[TenTec] ten tecs have 100 watts out on carrier??

yes that is what i mean - i tune my jap rigs on am where the carrier is only 40 or 50 watts. on ten tecs i guess i'm tuning on up on CW which is 100 watts. i am still a bit confused on this though - why is CW mode 100 watts and am only 50? i thought am and cw was the same - a carrier? i never used cw mode so excuse my ignorance. i guess my next question is can ten tecs be tuned up on am and can jap rigs be tuned up on cw before switching over to SSB.
