No software based radio is bullet proof.  At Field Day another famous make 
of SDR was receiving 20m nearby CW station while it was tuned to 40m SSB!

Software even for operating systems has limited lifetime today.  Look at the 
versions of Windows that are now obsolete and now we have Vista---

The computers themselves often only have a 3 year cycle time.  You don't 
want to bank of today's software being able to run on tomorrow after 
tomorrow.
