I discussion I saw said that the older, Eimac 3-500Z had zirconium in the anode and that when it was heated to at least a dull red, the zirconium becomes a getter. I don't know about newer tubes, or tubes with graphite anodes. My Dad (W5JHJ, SK) used to have several books on vacuum tubes and I recall reading something zirconium as a getter in one of them. I do not recall any details, however.

Doyle,
I've seen two, exactly opposite, views on this.
One view says yes, run them. The heat from the filaments is supposed to
activate the getter materials and absorb any stray gas. Thus preventing a
failure.
The opposite view - No, don't bother. The filaments are not hot enough to
do any good.
So.....take your choice. Its almost as bad as the arguments about VHF
glitching in amps, with about equally divided views as to whether this
actually exists at all.

in my TT Centurion. Was wondering if it is necessary to run the tubes
(filaments only) for a while with no HV. If so for how long?
> One other question. I am driving the Centurion with an Omni VI, when
operating sometimes the receive does not return & have to key the Omni to
recover the receive. I see the output relay in the Centurion it has a black
cover over it. How do you remove the cover so I can clean the relay
contacts. When operating the Omni barefoot, no problem with the receive.
