Jim,

I second Steve's suggestion below.

There are three steps in getting things set up for what you want to do.

1 - Set the maximum power the Omni VI will deliver to the Hercules II.

2 - Set the mic gain to light ALC on voice peaks.

3 - Set speech processing to desired level.

To review:

Step 1 Reduce mic gain and power level to zero and speech processor off.
The power control is the silver ring at the back of the mic gain control. Go
into tune and set the power level to drive the Hercules to your target power
level, say 400 watts. Make no further adjustments with the power control.

Current on the Herc should be somewhere around 50 - 60 amps depending
on band. Voltage should stay near 13 volts.

Step 2 In USB or LSB, key the mic and adjust the mic level until the ALC
light lights on voice peaks. Make no further adjustments with the mic level
control.

Step 3 Turn on the speech processor and adjust it into the black region as
you described. You will need to get some on air reports to find the sweet
spot between DX punch and low distortion. Almost everyone has a different
opinion on this matter so that's as far as I can go.

My conclusion is to ignore this condition. Is this OVERDRIVE light too sensitive and needs adjustment or what do I need to do?
