Get an International Radio  set of filters to open up the pass bands.
I was very disappointed with SSB reception on mine after using Kenwood
TS830S and Drake R4C gear for years. Consequently I used it little. 

The filter modification made it much more enjoyable on all bands.
#754 and # 755 are 28oo HZ filters compared to the stock 2400.

Now I don't know why the higher bands are different on your rig.
Wonder if you have an antenna problem?
