Then 27 ohms series resistance isn't a factor. And likely the vintage
military headphones have a useful narrow band and maybe even a peak in
response about 900 to 1000 Hz useful for CW. Some had an intentional
peak there for pilots to better hear beacons. The HIFI phones give out
lots of lows and highs that don't help separate weak signals from noise.
