I agree Barry the LP-PAN and V1 are a great combination.  It's also worth noting that T-T often does "stuff" to the firmware that is beyond the brief posted description.  So there may be additional "features/enhancements" in the package.

If you have no interest in the Orion's internal sweep (I prefer
LP-PAN), the only major change listed for the upcoming release is "AGC
enhancements for RF AGC vs. AF AGC".  It's not obvious exactly what
this means, how significant it will be and whether it makes a big
enough improvement to seduce many die-hard v1 users into finally
converting to v2.  Potentially, this phrase can be interpreted to mean
that they've re-worked the rx gain distribution (i.e., "AF" probably
means "dsp"), so there really could be some serious upside to this new
release.
