Having repaired many of the Paragon and Paragon II models, the likely cause 
of the erratic clock display is the connectors on the display board. 
Carefully unplug the cables, separate the two board, driver from the 
display,  and  clean the male pins with a solution of contact cleaner 
applied to a Q-Tip swab.  Don't just spray the crap all over the place!  I 
hate cleaning that gooey stuff off of the PB boards and other components. 
Gently clean and re-assemble.  Problems solved for another 10 to 15 years.
