[TenTec] Orion - OT

The easy and 100% solution is to turn off Windows sounds in the control
panel. After all, we've heard those things in the shack and office for
years and long enough and who cares about some stupid ding dong that
contains absolutely no intelligent information.

I'll also add my comment regarding using the headphones signal for the RX
audio to the computer as it is after the volume control and thus affected by
same. Better to use the line output on the radio which is before the
volume control thus allowing one to turn off or to turn down the volume if
they so choose and thus not affect the signal to the sound card.

As to feeding the audio into the mic input, again, not a good idea specially
if there is a line input available for the TX signal. One is much less
likely to get hum and ground loops and RF in the audio as the higher level
provides a much better S/N ratio. My general rule is; "if it is not a mike,
then don't connect it to the mike input". Works every time.

The exception to using or not using some type of interface is ones
preference to use PSK. That does require an interface and related
connection to the radio. The use of AFSK is generally more accurate and
easier to interface and operate.
