I spoke with Stan Brock at Dayton. He told me a couple of interesting
things. First he said Ten-Tec and I quote "doesn't care what is said on
the reflector". Second he did say that Ten-Tec is interested in factual
well documented trouble reports on any of their software but did not say
if there was a preferred methodology for Beta testers to report such
findings. The last thing he said specifically about the tick marks on
the sweep display is that he did not think there are plans to re-instate
them because "Ten-Tec doesn't really see the utility of the tick marks
and not very many customers have really complained about not having
them". I asked about a final release of the software and he said the
current Beta Version may very well be the final release but choose not
to discuss further. I'm not suggesting what we discussed was either a
positive or negative wrt Ten-Tec.
I have not loaded any of the Beta software because I am not an
experienced software evaluator and personally don't mind waiting for a
final more stable version to come out. For now the 2008 factory
installed software has been fine for my DXing and low intensity
contesting I do. Of course I graduated from an IC-706 to an Orion II in
2008 so the improvement was so remarkable the subtle issues / problems
with the as delivered software are completely transparent to me.
73 to all,
Doug, W9PN

I installed the new software and my one complaint has been repaired. If
the
sub-receiver is on AM and the transceiver is operating in the SSB mode,
once
the rig transmitted, the headphone audio disappeared. That is now fixed.
The small marks at the bottom of the sweep are missing which to me and
traffic handling, it is going to take some adjustment to guess where
there
is a quiet spot for passing traffic.
Thanks Ten-Tec for your work.
73,
John
