I'd be tempted to try the radio thoroughly first. If you really do suffer
with the sort of interference that such a roofing filter will help with then
you might want to look in more detail. Personally I find the continuously
variable DSP filtering more than sufficient in 99 out of 100 cases, maybe
it's just a lot quieter here. I very often run the radio with the widest
roofer selected as this gives the best noise blanker performance.

I think it's useful to refer to these properly as roofing filters not I.F
filters in the traditional sense (okay they are in the first IF)

Thanks Barry.   I'm purchasing a use Orion II which has a 1.8K filter 
but I'm a cw op.  I don't need a narrow filter but 1.8k is a bit broad!!
