Hi Ron,
I was reading your mail regarding the bugs in the Beta update 2.041XL and
I'm wondering that you didn't mention the VOX hanging issue introduced by
this last beta release.
During contests I use always the VOX and this bug ,only in the version
2.41XL, is very annoying. Switching the VOX OFF and ON cure the problem for
a while, but this is not what I expect from an ORION II.
I hope that you will add this issue to your fix list on your website
Looking forward for any comments,

Subject: [TenTec] Updated "FIX IT" list for Orion II v. 2.041XL
I avoided getting into the recent food-fight on this reflector about
problems with the Orion and Orion II firmware since the volley seemed more
emotional than objective. Those of you who know me or have read my posts in
the past know that I am neither a TT cheerleader nor basher...I report, you
decide.
Now that the dust has settled and most of the blood has dried, I thought it
would be good to update the v 2.041XL Fix List on my website. It can be
found at:
http://n6ie.com/Wish%20List2.htm
The list below is only about the 2.041XL update for the Orion II. On the
web link, you'll find the cumulative wish-list as well. Here is a summery
of what I hope TT is working on for the next 'non-beta' release:
1. Red Screen problem. Sweep goes to weird red lines and/or background.
Big signals were initially thought to be problem, but tests of up to 0 dBm
could not recreate the problem. This seems to happen only rarely but it is
a PITA.
2. Spot level is many dB below S-Tone level. They should be about the
same. They increased the side tone volume, but forgot about the spot tone,
which adjusted with the same control.
3. S-Meter and Sweep do not change while tuning main dial. This bugs me
more than I thought it would!
4. Popping on AF AGC (setting AGC constants very slow mitigates but does
not eliminate problem)
5. Low level on AF AGC relative to RF AGC of 10 to 20 dB
6. Reports of "noise crash" on AF AGC when Notch on AN pressed. (Many
people saw this initially, but it seems to have gone away on its own.go
figure!)
7. NR in AF AGC: sounds like it needs more level.
