[TenTec] Yamaha CM500 Headset

Nice report, Jim. THANKS.

Those Yamaha headsets garner good reviews from home recording mavens, also.
I have yet to see any bad press on them.

I wonder if it would be a better headset for TT to recommend than that
crappy ol' headset sold by Warren Gregware and Assoc. That uses a
condenser mic, and it really blows - it is overly hot, and has poor close
talk characteristics. And the headphone receiver elements sound thin and
hollow.

Another one I figured might work OK is the Koss SB-40 which has a dynamic
mic element, and also has decent earphone receiver elements--sounds
excellent and costs under $40.

The only negative with either the Yamaha or Koss models mentioned herein is
they each need an appropriate connector adapter to work with the rig. If
TT made such a connector, or we lined up another source, such as W2ENY who
makes and sells them on eBay and a web site he has, then TT could easily
recommend a far better headphone/mic combo that the WG model they now
reference - I cannot imagine why they still do this considering the low
quality thereof.

I use a Sennheiser HMD-45-6 open air headset, or a Shure SM-2 headset, and
occasionally the Shure 512 headset...uses same mic element as SM-2... with
excellent results. Plenty of good audio reports - and that is a real boon
for a relatively new operator - the last thing I need is a lousy microphone
messing up the program!

Just MY take.
