Gil, the old Omni series and I think the Argosy had 9 MHZ filters and the 
Corsair II and probably the original Corsair had filters in the 6 MHZ.

If you tried a filter out of an old Omni series in the Corsair I can see 
your problem.

I have an Argosy II, an Omni C, and 2 Corsair IIs. All very good radios.

The Corsair II will hear anything that my Omni VI+ hears with much less 
noise (this is on the low bands).
