Charles,
You may only need a better impedance matching to have your present
headphones work well. The best sensitivity head phones are any of the
old communications high impedance phones used in the War radios or post
war in ham stations that are 2000 to 15,000 ohms impedance. Even 600
ohm avaiation phones may work on your set.

Your existing phonesa re probably low impedance such as 8 ohms. You may
need to transform the audio to a higher voltage to improve your reception.

If you do find a set of older high impedance phones, they will be suited
for a narrow frequency range which will give you some filtering. But,
they will need cushions to be comfortable, for the old phones were hard
bakelite cases. You should get a bag of round sponges from Walgreen's
or other drug store chains, and cut out a donut from them, ie put a hole
in center over the earphone sound holes. Attach the sponge with double
sided Scotch tape and you will have the most comfortable cusions you
have seen. The foam sponges I am describing are small cell foam, and
thus very soft.

A bag of them was $2 a couple of years ago.
