I have the Orion 1 and Orion 2.  There is a guy on Ebay selling a pre-made
cable for the Orion series with USB on one end.
I got one and it works perfect.
For my other one, I got a USB to Serial converter from Best Buys and it
works perfect too.
I can flip-flop them and both work fine.  In fact, using N1MM, I can use
them both at same time in SO2R fashion.
So far, I can't find a way to NOT make them track with any software.

I have seen this problem come up quite often, not only with TT equipment, 
but with a variety of things.  The one USB to serial converter that has 
worked every time for me, including with my Orion II, a friend's "original" 
Orion, my old TS-870, GPS units and more is the Cables To Go unit:
