Michael.....You are right on your line of thought. You don't need the scopes
everyone is rattling off model numbers.
I worked for HP for over 15 years, and was given a high-end 275 Mhz scope to 
keep.
I sold it on ebay!  Too big, too confusing, and simply not required. I got a 
nice 100 Mhz Hitachi that
for my purposes....is light years better than the HP!    And WAY easier to 
use!
I'll go find the model if you are interested....But if you just want to see 
what's going on at a solder point, or if there is AC on a signal....looking 
at an IF or buzzing out to see why the audio isn't making it to the 
speaker....you don't need Tek or HP.....besides.....if it is a reasonably 
priced one ....its old..(and BIG)   if its desktop sized....its new, and 
expensive!!
