[TenTec] Titan III screen current question.....

My titan III screen meter, with no drive, is about 1/8 inch above zero. In
normal operation, I actually show a very small amount of negative grid
current at maximum output - needle never goes below 1/8 belo zero. Only
when I have a real bad mismatch do I show positive screen current.
I was told that it's a real pain in the but to change the meter lamps. Both
of mine, as well as the one behind the operate/standby switch are bad. I'll
live with it!
Great amplifier, though. Best I've ever owned but it sure likes the SWR to
be below 1.5 to 1.

Subject: [TenTec] Titan III screen current question.....
I am trying to help a local friend get one of these going, and think we have
made good progress.
Can someone tell me if they see ANY screen current with no drive applied to
the amp? The HV looks good. When I switch the amp from standby to operate,
and place the meter in the Screen Current position, with NO drive to the
amp, I am seeing about 2 mills of current? Paul can't recall if that is
normal or not.
Also, ha anyone done the LED mod to the meter lamps.? TT does not stock the
original incandescent meter lamps. They put together a few LED's and a
resistor to substitute. And......the lamps are inside of the meter! You
have to remove the transformer and a large PCB to get to the meters. Great
design, eh?
Thanks, and 73.........John W4II
