[TenTec] omni 6+/ power issue

Clayton, have you called TT? They are very helpful. If you send it in they
charge $60 an hour. I guess that is not all that bad these days. My first love
is cw and it is hard to beat the keying of TT rigs. My first TT was a Argonaut
509, I had a lot of fun with that little rig.

I wonder if my Omni VI has a simular problem? The vfo is frozen at the top of
each band. Display says we are tuning as normal but we are not
seemed to start out a a loose joint (??) but now just sits at 5.xxx mhz.

Still want to send back to it's daddy to see if it is fixable. Might be we
could see if there is an interest in making new boards that would work in
these fine radios. The Omni may be old, but they still hang in there with the
best of the rest.

Yes, the OEMICs being out of production was one of my reasons for selling my
OMNI-VI+. But there should be a replacement solution even if it’s a new small
board with several PICs to accomplish the same thing. I believe whoever finds
the PIC replacement to keep the OMNI-VI+ line in service can make a lot of
people happy and make a few $$$ at the same time.

Gary, I dug into the 6+ today and it has a missing clocking pulse. I called TT
and was told some of the ic's are no longer available! I only us 160-30m and
the only bands that are low power are 20 and 17m. So do I sell as is or just
keep it? Time will tell.

My Omni VI+ which I sold last summer apparently had this symptom on one band
and was sent to TT by the new owner for repair of the band pass board.

My OMNI 6+ has a power issue on 20m and 17m, it drops to 50w output on 20m
and
15w on 17m. All other bands are okay. I've checked the output of the L.O.
Mixer
board, port 26, across a 50 ohm load. 160m through 40m, the the output is
800
mvpp and and drops to 100mv on 20m and up. I don't think it is the output
filters of the PA because 20m and 17m don't share the same filter. The L.O.
Mixer is nested below another board so I can not make any measurements on
that
board other than ohm meter readings. Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks,
Wayne/w8aju
