Not at low power. I use a 15 amp fast blow automotive fuse made by a
reputable manufacturer (Buss) to protect my Corsair II. So far I've
blown a couple fuses tuning a manual tuner at full power, but no PA
transistors.

The switch has been explained. It doesn't switch the radio, its a remote
for the power supply line side, good for no more than 3 amps.
When I purchased the rig, it came with a hand mic,

The turner CB mike has a preamp, that's not needed. The hand mike was
probably low impedance and didn't drive the high impedance input of the
radio so well.
