One of the reasons that the good radios of yesteryear hold their own is,
they all had tunable preselectors built in.
That will work wonders for any radio.
The disadvantage is, you can't work split with big freq. differences and
hear on both.

Have you seen how the Drake R-4C with all Sherwood mods compares to
todays mega function rx's???
Holds up pretty good!
I have done A/B tests with my OII and Sherwood R-4C. Can't hear
anything on the OII that the Drake can't hear!
(I'm sure there couild be a situation where that's not true)
But, of course all those neat feature on the OII are fun, and make it
great in a contest.

Just a another blast from the past.
Looking over my Drake R-4C sensitivity at .25uV across the ham bands
and
then the Eagle at .5uV and my heart glows like the R-4C cool blue
dial.
That being said, please so not ask me about how the Drake compares with
the
stabilility of .5ppm in the Eagle because the hash marks on my Drake
dial
just can't go there! :>)
How can Drakes be compared to Eagles anyay? One paddles and the other
soars.
