[TenTec] WAS: Omni 6 Logic board failure

Mike,

You are probably right, but I don't believe I'm going to be overly concerned
if it does. The OMNI-VII is a great radio; I believe for my use, after
learning to operate it, that its better than the OMNI-VI+. What I have come
to understand about the OMNI-VII is every knob is a digital encoder and the
unit is a SDR and I cannot work on it. Being a SDR is not a bad thing, as
TenTec and John Henry continue to make improvements to the radio. That being
said, when the time comes and I need to consider repair, replace with a
similar (used) OMNI-VII, or buy new, I'll do what is right for me at the
time.

I've had a good run with TenTec since I started using a new OMNI-D in 1981,
sold the OMNI-D and bought a new Corsair II 1988 (still have it), a Paragon
in 1992 which went back to TT in 98 for PLL out of sync problems being
replaced by the OMNI-VI+ in 2000. I also have a Titan 425 and the Model 253
Automatic Antenna Coupler. Most everything except the OMNI-D and the Corsair
II has been back to TenTec service at least once, mostly just for use
related repairs. The Corsair II continues to be my one radio which I can
repair if I choose and I have replaced the electrolytic capacitors and
drivers for the frequency display.

I've had several Japanese HF radios and found their service turn-around and
costs to not be as good. Flex Radio and Elecraft may have a solution to the
aging component problem in HF radios, but I doubt it.

Hummm,

who's to say ten years down the road, or sooner, the Omni VII doesn't have a
logic board problem?
