[TenTec] serial numbers

Does anyone know about TenTec changing their system of serial numbers on their radios? I just received a new Omni VII and the serial number is a 10 digit number without any letters. I looked around the internet and various TenTec groups but could not come up with any explanation. Have they just abandoned their old system? Is there any useful information that can be found in the new serial numbers?
