Thanks Rick, I agree, changing the old relays to vacuum, etc. would be the best way to go. I have the documentation from the web for that project and decided I didn't want to go to all the trouble. If I did that, Measures design would probably be the one I would use. Anyway, I'll keep plugging away at this project. I should be able to get it working, as I installed an old original Ameritron QSK board in my old BTI amp and made it work. I'm pretty sure I just don't have it set up quite right yet.

Years ago I tried to get the QSK-5 to play with my Omni VI+ and an Ameritron
Amp, which also had a slow open-frame TR-relay. I started buying
replacement protection lamps by the dozens. I never got it to work.
In my opinion, the best thing to do is to swap out the old relay circuitry
in the Amp for a 12v circuitry, and then use a 12v Vacuum relay. Actually
you will need a couple of relays. It's a lot of work but probably a better
solution than the QSK-5. IMHO
MFJ sells two models of inexpensive vacuum relays: 408-8100 (DPST-NO), and
408-8500 (DPST - one pole NO, one pole NC). Use an open collector
transistor to keyed from the TX OUT signal to key the relay. Use a small
reed relay to send the TX EN signal back to the transceiver.

Any Orion II owners using an Ameritron QSK-5 switch with a non TenTec amp? I
am trying to set up a QSK-5 with my O2 and a Kenwood TL-922A. I think I have
it figured out, but have been blowing the protective lamps. Before I replace
them another time I would like to see if anyone has successfully connected
one. I read the great write up by N6MW and checked the documentation at the
TenTec website regarding this. Just want to verify ....
Thanks and 73, Rod/w7zrc
