[TenTec] 'T' signal from OmniVI to outside

Allan, I think it is a bit dangerous to run the actual T line outside.
You need to buffer that signal before leaving the box.

You should have it trigger an open collector circuit and run that signal
outside to trigger other stuff.
That way if something unexpected happens to the external line, worst case
you blow that additional transistor and not something back on the mainboard.

There is plenty of room for mounting extra RCA Phono jacks on the back.
I mounted a pair in the upper left corner for connecting a preselector to.
Just be VERY careful when you drill through the back panel.
There are some components located about half an inch away and they are easy
to damage.
(I killed an RF Choke the first time I did this mod). I did this to 3
Omni's.
Use something to limit the depth of the drill.

The best way is to have a second person holding a vacuum cleaner on the
inside of the radio to capture any bits of metal before they reach any
critical points.

Subject: [TenTec] 'T' signal from OmniVI to outside

I have two venerable OmniVIs. Love 'em! As it turns out, I need to find a
minimally-invasive way to 'grab' the 'T' signal and get it to the outside
world. I do not wish to steal another output but rather to very
strategically locate a RCA phono jack for this output. Has anyone done this?
If so, where did you locate the jack?

What will I be doing with this signal? Two purposes: 1) to run an Alpha amp,
and 2) to run some outboard T/R circuitry.
I know someone from this reflector used the 'T' line to control the Alpha
amp in order to not do hot switching.

No, the standard T/R pair used to switch a TT amp won't do it.
