I maintained air traffic control radar systems when I was in the Air 
Force in the 70s.  The scope was our #1 troubleshooting tool.  Due to 
the issues with timing and short-duration pulses, there was simply no 
other piece of test equipment that would do the job.

In fact, in our first block of radar maintenance school, we studied a 
built-in scope used in one of the WWII mobile radar units.
