One other word of note.
The Orion 565 and Orion II 566 both require hardware handshaking to work
properly.
So, ensure that the control program does indeed have a selection to enable
hardware handshaking, namely RTS/CTS.
Without it, I can guarantee you will see the errors you are seeing, and
more.

Also, if you can adjust the polling intervals, set them to 150ms or 200ms
at the least.
