[TenTec] Orion II failure

Thanks Carl and Mike for your suggestions. I have verified that I have a good 13.8 vdc supply voltage. I also replaced the battery and removed the front panel and cleaned the connectors. No joy ... Now the problem has settled down to not powering up at all. It has tried to power up but would not complete the cycle. So, I called Ten Tec Service this morning and they think it is probably the capacitor problem. I will probably send it in to them today.

If I cannot find a good backup rig, I will miss CW SS this weekend for the first time in a long run .... Oh well.

73, and thanks for the suggestions.

Subject: [TenTec] Orion II failure

Just now my Orion II audio in the main receiver quit. At the same time the S-meter appears to have settled to zero or nearly so. I waited a couple seconds and the audio came back then quit again. The bar graph for the second receiver appears to working okay.  Waiting a few more seconds, the display slowly faded out to nearly white. I switched the O2 off and on and it came back okay. Then after a few seconds it repeated the same symptoms. Right now it is off and I'm letting it cool down to see if that makes a difference.

Rig has the latest firmware and has been reliable up to this point.

Any suggestions?

Thanks and 73, Rod/w7zrc
