[TenTec] RASCAL interface and the Orion 565

Jack, I think you made a typo regarding pin 4.

Fwiw, my copy of the Orion II manual (October 2006) on page 27 shows pin 3
of the Aux I/O jack as PTT and pin 7 as FSK. Pin 4 is line level output,
pin 1 is line level input. Pins 5, 6 and 8 have no connection. Pin 2 is
ground

Joe, the Orions come with a cable that connects the Orion to any computer
that has serial ports or one can use a serial to USB cable. one of the lines
is sound in and the other is sound out which connect to the input and output
of the audio card. the Orion manual has a diagram showing the cable and its
use.

page 28 of the manual shows the pin-out of the cable hooked to the AUX I/O
of the Orion. Pin 3 is PTT, Pin 4 is FSK, pin 6 is RIGHT AUX out (sound) Pin
4 is LEFT AUX out, Pin 2 is ground. Page 28 explains the pin-out and
continues on Page 29 with FSK application.

That is very good Jack, the problem is that I am not the owner of the Orion
but
my friend W0TT is. I am trying to get him on RTTY.
Maybe you could send me a note off line on what cables you are talking
about?
We do want to be able to use FSK and NOT AFSK. And do CW without changing
cables.

One does not need a Rascal for RTTY with the Orion. one can use the cables
that
came with Orion for RTTY direct to the computer. I have done exactly that
for
all the years I have had my Orions 565, mostly CW but MixW3 will do all
modes
just about with the above cable connections to computer.
