Hi Rick,

Do contrast modification: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/orion565/files/Orion%20565%20%281%29%20LCD%20/
Initially the LCD backlight current is above the man. spec. Just cut  a signle wire and insert a resistor ==> done!
This works wonders; much better contrast after warmup period.
