Randy, would a S meter from an Omni VI work?   I do have a spare one around.

It seems to me that the old OMNI series radios can be repaired if you can find a substitute part which can be made to work. The are no proprietary chips or devices. Its pretty much WYSIWYG an analog PTO radio, just read the schematic, look at the parts, find a replacement part which works,  repair the old part, or make a substitute.

I spent 3 hours on it, pulled front panel and then unsolder/pulled the pots. I actually was able to pull them apart, and push the shaft in and out to get it unstuck and then put some grease in and put them all back together and make it work as new. Once you get the pot out not as hard as I thought. Only problem, the S meter has some corrosion, and the fine wire is broke inside! I was on my way to getting this trash can Omni back to life...Got the speaker ps going last night..Now to just find a old S meter! Thank for reply..Randy

Randy,

Those are very hard to find,  some people ran 12V through the power switch and burned them as there weren't designe for that current.

There were only meant to power the AC line to the power supply.

Best find any push/pull pot of any value then replace the resistor plate with one that works or the original if not damaged.

I have a surplus store here that sells the 100 ohm version in the same body style,

What I have done in the past is open the front of the 100 ohm one by lifting the tabs and then replaced the carbon resistor plate with the correct value.

If you can't use the original plate,  Make sure you find the right type of resistor plate,  there is a  audio taper and a linear taper.

Hope that help.

Best Wishes
