[TenTec] Herc II vs Astron

Bob, you did not tell us what antenna matchbox you are using.

If it is a model 238, they you are correct, it should be OK.
BUT if it is a T-Network tuner, then it is easily possible to have a good
SWR, despite the tuner being tuned wrong, have excessive power loss within
the tuner AND cause funny things to happen outside: weak signal.

But the transceiver should be OK, regardless.

did a check of my ameritron this am with the omni 6 running 50 watts and the
herk 2 at 500 watts out still not into fault and the needle not even hitting
the red yet on the amp meter of the p/s but i can go off resonance of the
antenna and all sorts of strange things happen!

now an antenna tuner can cause strange things too i always tune at
lowest swr dip of the meter and after that apply full power things will act
normally then.

Right.

LOSS in the line is determined by the match between the antenna and the
line.

My observation about a 70A Astron supply being insufficient is based on
presenting a matched load to my Herc II using a 229 or 238.  The Astron
would go into protect with keydown at full power.  Yes, I could have backed
off the power a bit, and the supply would have been happy.
