What are you powering it from?
Check the +8v regulator and make sure it is a constant 8v all the time.

Delighted with my newly found 509.  Only gig is a bit of a chirp (although I
suspect it helps to stand out in the clutter)!  

Any hints on troubleshooting this gem?
