Generally speaking, in respect of making a profit and staying in business,
it is generally best to be the 2nd or 3rd company to implement a new
technology.  

REASONS:
1)  Apart from a few users who always want the latest toy, most buyers are
hesitant to buy new, unproven technology.
2)  In addition to marketing, you also have to do missionary work to
convince people to buy it.
3)  Early implementers (users) generally face mass incompatibility problems
(example:  Eagle and software based on Omni-Rig).  This results in a
negative image, rather than positive.

Companies who are 2nd or 3rd can leverage the missionary work done by the
pioneer - and hopefully by that time the legacy software programs or
hardware accessories are compatible with the new technology.
