[TenTec] RX-366?

I bought one, the last of the existing stock, I was told. Will I make more contacts with it? Well, um... Probably not. Will I work more rare DX with it? I sorta doubt it.

Now, I like to think of myself as a pragmatist, as if everything I have is based on functionality, best bang for the buck, etc. But, to be perfectly honest, I bought it simply because... Well, I *wanted* one. I wanted a fully decked out O II. Like so many things, it's a decision made for purely personal and somewhat selfish reasons.

Agreed.  Maybe Management could take a poll or have a sign up sheet -
kinda like my wife's aerobics class - if enough gals sign up, there is a
class... otherwise not.  If enough operators commit to buying a second
receiver kit, Management would know it is worth producing a run of x units.

I remember last year or so, one of our members put out a small kit that
replaced something or other in an older TT rig...  and said he would
only do it if sufficient numbers committed to buying it.   It was one of
the coolest things I have seen in ham radio - loads of cooperation and
ingenuity to a common end.  But without the advance commitment, it was
merely speculative... and no one argued that point.

So, maybe TT could make more receiver kits if there was sufficient
commitment (demand) to build them at a point where TT could at least
break even.   It is OK to just break even, but never good to lose money
on a project.  Breaking even means you paid your suppliers, your
engineers, employees, taxes, overhead, etc.,  so breaking even is at
least OK - but losing money is not.

I would spend the $600 for one, ONLY if someone explains how I would get
$600 more fun out of the radio with it.  Would I really make more
contacts?  How many rare DX contacts will I miss without it?  What would
it ACTUALLY DO worth another $600.  (You may call me a lid; I concede
ignorance.)  So, unless someone presents a persuasive case for spending
the cash now, I will save my money for the next big deal.

Just MY take.

I didn't get from your response whether the RX-366 has been discontinued
or not.
