I think you are right Jim.
However inserting a choke in the transmission line takes 30 seconds if you
have one.

I also think bob is right.
The mic jack should be used for the mic and the audio for the data signals
should go to the back panel DIN connector.

It may be, but I suspect something as simple as direct radiation from the
antennas being picked up on the shields of cables plugged into the radio --
those cables are acting as RX antennas -- and and that current flows into
the radio via the Pin One Problem.

In other words, the TX antenna works just fine, but the UNINTENTIONAL
receiving antenna (the mic cable, or other cables) are also working just
fine.
