Ever since it became cheaper to purchase electronic items (from a minimum wage perspective) than it was to build something similar, I mentally depreciate electronics by a factor of 2 every year to year and a half of ownership.  If you factor into the value of something as in hours of enjoyment per dollar spent, it's right up there with a nice titanium (Merlin) bicycle:-)
