Thanks, Bob and others, for a helpful discussion. I understand it a 
little better now. As to the question quoted above, obviously there's no 
operational reason to ask for a retune on the same frequency; it was an 
experiment to see what the tuner would do. (As I recall, if the 293B 
back home were asked to do this, it would just blink for a fraction of a 
second, indicating it already had a match.)

I agree with Bob on the "value added." Space is tight here at the camp, 
and I appreciate both eliminating an external tuner and being able 
conveniently to use the mobile bracket to mount the Eagle to the bottom 
of a bookcase shelf (QRZ dot com photo). (No plans to mobilize the 
Eagle; I use a 706IIG for that. The detachable face plate is a great 
feature.)
