The Omni VII does not ground its receive only antenna connection either. 
  But it does have a spark gap to protect from high voltages.  So the 
addition of a spark gap on the receive only line would be a reasonable 
safety factor.

As long as there is more than 150 feet separation I see no problem 
anyway.  Most receive only antenna connections on radios are not 
protected but they do caution about adequate antenna separation.
