A metal 6L6 upside down in  a bucket of wet sand for real power. Pretty 
purple glow looking at the base.
Neighbor worked for telco and put a huge pole in the back yard. 
Woodpecker built a nest in it so I had to
bang on the pole with a 2 X 4. He would always come back.  My mother 
made me cut the pole down when I joined
the NAVY. My friends mother worked for ARRL in Newington and gave me a 
killer power supply with mercury rectifier tubes.
1200 volts on a 6L6 was beautiful.
