Joe:

A long time ago, when I was in fourth grade an uncle bought me a AM radio, in a wooden case, that had shortwave. That started me as a SWL. Later in 12 grade, 1954, I bought a used Heathkit AT1, crystal bound CW transmitter. I had to cover the transmitter with metal screen to stop TVI in the neighborhood. My dad bought me a Hallicrafters S85. With my novice ticket and a vee dipole I was on the air as KN2UMQ looking for DX in nearby New York State and Pennsylvania on 80 meters....now, years later still looking for DX but with a rig that was unimaginable back in 1950's: Ten Tec Orion II.
