[TenTec] 579 / Century 22

Gary,

Look for low output on 80 meters. If it is low, there is a pot called
"40 meter carrier null" on the oscillator/mixer/bandpass board. Use a
'scope on the output with a dummy load and adjust for cleanest signal
peak on 80 meters.

There is no SWR protection, so use a current-limited supply or fast 5A
circuit breaker. If not protected, finals will blow under high SWR.
Check the condition of the on/off switch. Full current goes through the
switch. Check the condition of the dial pointer elastic cord.

Manual scans for the Century 22 are available online. I have one
downloaded from Ten-Tec (before their web site went dark) and one
downloaded elsewhere with a typed note by G3VTT with instructions on the
driver and final bias settings. I can e-mail them to you if you need them.

The Century 22 is a great rig, excellent for basic CW operation, QRP
or up to 20W, or as a backup to the big rig. The receiver is really
nice, very quiet and the audio filter takes out the neighborhood plasma
TV and switching power supply buzz better than a noise blanker.

                        73,

                         Bob WB2VUF
